In the Heights, I had horrible experiences. To start, there was nothing wrong with my brother's feeding tube, until 3days into being there, it all of a sudden started bleeding so bad it soaked the bed by morning. The Dr said that shouldn't happen that many days after surgery. I overheard nurses saying it happened while turning him. But they wouldn't tell us that to our face. Then after stitching it shut, they were supposed to keep an eye on it to see if bleeding stopped, and no-one checked on it until 3 1/2 hrs later when I requested someone check him at the nurses station. They had an attitude with me and said they were checking on him by peeking in from the hall. I was like you got x-ray vision to see through the covers and gown from the hall? Then find out the bleeding actually started the night before, when the shift change nurse remarked, oh that's still bleeding from when I was here last night? Then the next night he was experiencing seizures through the night with same nurse and I didn't get called till 10am about it and he layed there till 12:30 before they moved him to ICU Allegheny General. In the meantime, I noticed there was a blood pressure cuff on his left arm while we were waiting to be moved. I had told them on day one that he takes dialysis from a fistula in that arm and he has 6 warning bands on that wrist stating it can't be used for blood pressure or IV's or anything. On day one the nurse was annoyed that I would tell her how to do her job, but on day one shift change the new nurse went for that arm for blood pressure. I let her go as far as wrapping it around his arm, then quickly told her that arm isn't to be used, she said but I can't use the other arm cause of the pick line in it, what am I supposed to use? I had to tell her to use his leg. So before I left on day one, I stopped at the nurses station and requested something be done to make sure no-one uses his left arm for anything. They put a big bold sign above his bed on the wall. On the last day there, while waiting to be moved while he's seizing for hours, I noticed a blood pressure cuff on the left arm when I arrived. I got the unit manager and showed her, and she apologized and removed it and said she'd talk to her staff. Not happy with them at all. Wish it would've worked out, cause they are the closest, but would rather drive to get him better care.

I fully believe that the care that my mother received from this organization contributed to her untimely death. Too many errors in judgment and poor follow up to list in such a short review. But if you have a choice of where to go or send a loved one steer clear of this place!
